Description: McMaster University has identified aging as a key research priority, focusing its efforts on addressing the most urgent challenges facing the aging population. In 2017, the University made a transformative investment in this critical field by establishing the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA). MIRA’s mission is to enhance the health and longevity of older adults through innovative research, education, and collaborations with stakeholders, while upholding values of integrity, excellence, interdisciplinary cooperation, and transparency. The research projects supported by these scholarships aim to develop the next generation of leaders in aging research and generate evidence that improves the well-being of older adults.
Eligibility:

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international applicants are eligible for the award.

The award must be held at McMaster University by a full-time graduate student entering their first year of a Master’s degree or their first or second year of a PhD, in the academic funding year of the award. Applicants must begin their eligible year (first year of Master’s or first or second year of PhD) no earlier than May 1, 2025, and no later than April 30, 2026.

As part of MIRA's commitment to supporting interdisciplinary research, all proposals for MIRA scholarships must include a mentor from a McMaster Faculty outside of the applicant’s primary supervisor’s Faculty.

The applicant’s supervisor must be a MIRA member or agree to become a member before funding is disbursed.
